JUNE 19, 2007
Thank you for your letter. I am a 45 year old stage III, right kidney removed March 07. I am on Sutent 50 mgm, still on my first cycle. I had side effects that required a rest period of 7 days. I am getting ready to finish the first cycle. Side effects of foot blisters and pain that prevented me from walking was the worst side effect. Others were manageable. I have six children age 7 to 18, have been married to a wonderful man for 20 years who is very supportive and live in a small community that are like family. I was denied help with the cost of Sutent through First Resourse and my non covered amount was $1,800.00 per month that insurance did not pay. Just this week, I received a letter from First Resource from Pfizer stating that they would give me the medication for free. I had reapplied two weeks ago, but didn't think I had much hope.
God works in the most wonderful ways. I plan on being around to raise my children and continue to live a blessed life with my husband and family. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am the first patient my oncologist has prescribed Sutent for. And I am one of the only stage III recipient. Unfortunately, my physicians aren't always the most positive people. I originally was told that they would do nothing, as they thought I also had a tumor in my lilver that turned out negative. I hope my oncologist becomes an much as an advocate as yours. Becky. (Husband: Sam)
